Myth Busting

MYTH: Good business partnering is about mastering Excel for the rest of the organization.

Business partnering must be modern to the times by leveraging digital tools, working across functions, visualizing data and storytelling.

MYTH: A business partner’s main role is to produce reports.

Business partners are catalysts for change by changing the perspective, bringing the outside in, and framing the issue. And they are strategic investors, embracing an approach that is holistic, innovative, forward-looking, and driven by long-term ROI.

MYTH: New digital tools are for a limited number of expert Associates.

Associates in this job family must partner with non-Finance Associates and empower them to access information directly through our new digital tools.

MYTH: It is easier to say no than yes to a project.

In my career I’ve worked across several business models, prior to Mars I had experience working in Business Advisory services for KPMG and in an infrastructure engineering team consulting for government. Since joining Mars I have worked in the Petcare division and Mars Global Services, both complimenting each other while also presenting very different experiences. In my time in MGS we have also drastically changed our business model: moving from an in-house service center with all tasks performed by Mars associates, to leveraging a 3rd Party provider (Genpact) to execute transactional processes across most of our teams.
